What a Summer!

This summer however has been far from quiet with the arrival of our second child, baby Cameron. He made an appearance on 24th July. For most of our clients the summer months are the busiest, supplying and working at countless weddings and events. Thats why we hold our wedding fairs just outside silly season in the Spring and Autumn when things are a little calmer.

The Summer months for us are usually a little quieter when we do all of the background work and the selling of stands for our events. But not this year!

So we are back to sleepless nights, nappies, loud noises, continuous feeding and general tiredness.

But the business (or businesses) wont run themselves. As a self employed parent, I don’t have the luxury of paternity pay or time off.

We run the business ourselves. Yet we are very close to the stage where we say enough is enough, we need someone to help us.

We are now just a few weeks away from our Autumn Wedding Fairs so chasing suppliers up seems to be the order of the day. I am also a wedding photographer so most Saturdays are taken up during the Summer documenting couples’ special day. This is followed by hours of editing.

Meryl has her own business outside of MJR Events and is currently enjoying her maternity leave from that.

Baby Cameron wasn’t the only new edition to the family recently. Another part of MJR Events is The Little AdVan Co and we added a second van to the ‘fleet’. Thus meaning that we can promote our own events, alongside other clients’.

So you can see we are fairly busy. We know that we are far from unique – but there are still family things to do. What with shopping, ballet lessons, swimming lessons, Rugbytots, doctors appointments, Midwife & Health Visitor appointments, parties, days out, all things that have to be done to restore the work / life balance.

The clever part is learning how to juggle all of this alongside getting the work done to pay for all of the above.
